Emory, Va. — Catawba College senior Jayden Bennermon earned South Atlantic Conference Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Meet and Jason Bryan earned Men's Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year at the South Atlantic Conference Outdoor Championships, as Catawba closed out four titles and a program-record runner-up finish on Thursday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Triple Jump
- Bennermon took home the SAC championship in the men's triple jump, reaching 15.15 meters
- Chris Brown joined him on the podium with a mark of 14.54 meters
- Chase Brown placed eighth, reaching 13.83 meters
Javelin
- Dominick Gentile earned a podium finish in the men's javelin throw, throwing to a mark of 53.51 meters, good for third
High Jump
- Bennermon and Namaurion Koontz shared the men's high jump title, clearing 2.07 meters
4x100-Meter Relay
- Catawba's team of Au'wann Gary, Victor Smith, Kengel Christopher and Miles Stephens placed as the runner-up in the men's 4x100 relay with a mark of 40.28 seconds
1,500-Meter Run
- Seth Caudill finished in less than a half second behind the league champion in the men's 1500m run, setting a mark of 3:55.05
400-Meter Dash
- Jeremiah Hines and Christopher placed sixth and seventh in the men's 400
100-Meter Dash
- Smith cruised to the SAC title in the men's 100m dash with a 10.09-second effort
- Stephens earned a podium finish with a sprint of 10.43 seconds
800-Meter Run
- Seth Roy placed sixth in the men's 800m run with a time of 1:52.25
200-Meter Dash
- Stephens placed fourth in the men's 200m dash with a 20.82-second effort
5,000-Meter Run
- Will Lyons and Carson Wells turned in top-eight finishes in the men's 5K, as Lyons broke just under 15 minutes
4x400-Meter Relay
- Catawba's team of Hines, Stephens, Smith and Chrisopher finished the meet with a title in the men's 4x400 relay, finishing with a mark of 3:10.80
