MIAMI SHORES, Fla. — The Catawba College men's volleyball team received its seventh and eighth Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (IVA) weekly honors as Justin Arrowood and Kristian Smith were named the league's Offensive Player of the Week and Setter of the Week, respectively.
Arrowood mashed 22 kills across the Catawba Indians' pair of sweeps against Barton and Newberry last week, averaging 3.67 darts per set. Outside of the attacking game, Arrowood racked up 10 digs with two assists and a block. The Arlington Heights, Ill., product finished the week with 290 kills for the year, remaining in the hunt to overtake the current single-season record of 367.
To earn his second career IVA weekly award, Smith starred at the setter slot with 62 assists (10.33 per set), four service aces, nine digs, three blocks and two kills. The junior from Zebulon, N.C., delivered three consecutive aces on Tuesday against Barton in a 25-dime sweep, then helped facilitate another blanking of Newberry with 37 assists – exceeding 12 per-set helpers for the second time this season.
Arrowood is a first-time IVA honoree – the Offensive Player of the Week is Catawba's first of the season – while Smith pocketed Setter of the Week laurels for the second time in three weeks. Catawba Indians have appeared in three of the IVA's last four weekly award releases.
